Job Title: Database Administrator

Reports to: Database Administration Supervisor

Department: Information Technology

Purpose of the Role

The jobholder will be responsible for the development, maintenance and security of the bank’s data and databases (all) by ensuring the continuous availability, safety, and speed-to-access of the bank’s databases.

• Perform database management routines by doing a daily health-check, data sizing, database patching, 24/7 monitoring, data backup, and replication checks.
• Knowledge in Database tuning.
• Analysing and tuning of database’s performance through query optimization, index management and configurations.
• Proven hands-on on data extraction, data recovery, data security and integrity.
• Maintain all bank’s database privileges by adding, updating, or deleting backend users.
• Perform a regular database maintenance and keep book log for the maintenance.
• Develop and implement capacity planning strategies to support business growth.
• Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive Bank disaster recovery plan.
• Participate in periodic data backups and disaster drills.
• Maintaining data standards, including adherence to professional database problem solving and change management procedures.
• Maintain datacentre’s information confidentiality strictly.
• Perform database and application monitoring for replications.
• Ensure compliance to IT Policies and Procedures.
• Participate in datacentre’s auditing activities.

• Be ready to provide support during late hours, holidays, and weekends in response to needs of the systems being supported or as per planned roaster or in case of emergency.
• Perform any other duties as may be directed by the direct supervisor or The Head of IT.

• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information systems, data or Information management or the equivalent.
• Minimum of 3-5 years hands-on experience in database administration for MSSQL, Oracle DB or Postgres.
• Expert-level knowledge of at least two major databases platforms (Oracle and SQL) & two major Operating Systems (Linux and Windows).
• Hands-on and proven experience in troubleshooting database related issues.
• Hands-on in configure and manage database backup and replications.
• Relevant database professional certifications in Mango, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or Oracle is an added advantage.
• Experience in managing multiple RDBMS on large systems.
• Should have experience working with vendors/suppliers and managing SLA.
• Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service.
• Excellent Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work autonomously.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, activities, and tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to think strategically.
• Teamwork development and spirit.
