Position: Medical Officer – Emergency Department

Number of Positions: 4

Job Purpose

The medical officer will provide emergency patient care and support specialized doctors in delivering safe and effective medical services.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide timely and appropriate care to patients based on triage priorities.
  • Resuscitate and stabilize patients and refer them to the appropriate medical departments when necessary.
  • Quickly assess patients, make preliminary diagnoses, and determine suitable treatment.
  • Evaluate patients’ medical, physical, and psychosocial conditions.
  • Develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds and monitor patients’ progress.
  • Prepare and update patient progress and procedure notes.
  • Request and follow up on laboratory tests, examinations, medications, and other therapies.
  • Prepare medical prescriptions and ensure patients receive the prescribed treatment.
  • Complete admission, progress, and procedure documentation.
  • Educate and counsel patients about their health conditions and treatment.
  • Support the development and achievement of the department’s objectives.
  • Ensure quality care for admitted patients.
  • Follow up on investigations that have been requested.
  • Participate in managing and allocating ward beds.
  • Ensure patient medical files are properly completed and maintained.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of professional competence as assigned by the Head of Service.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in General Medicine.
  • A valid registration certificate and license to practice medicine in Rwanda issued by the relevant professional council.
  • Must be certified/recognized as a Medical Officer according to the grading requirements of the professional council.
  • Relevant experience: 0 years required.

Important Requirement

Only Medical Officers who have successfully completed the required period of the Public Service Agreement will be considered for this position.

Required Certificate

  • Valid license to practice medicine issued by the relevant professional council in Rwanda.
