RATWA SACCO HUYE is inviting qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Accountant at its Head Office.

Main Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Head of Finance & Administration, the Accountant will:

  • Complete assigned duties accurately and within the required time.
  • Follow instructions provided by the employer or authorized supervisors.
  • Properly use and take care of equipment provided for work.
  • Respect working hours, schedules, and workplace requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of institutional information.
  • Provide the required identification documents before starting employment.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and regulations governing the Cooperative's activities.
  • Ensure the organization's accounting systems comply with applicable accounting standards.
  • Verify cash records and general ledger balances against month-end cash collection and deposit reports.
  • Monitor accounts receivable, collections, and accounts payable.
  • Prepare asset inventories in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Review ledger accounts and monitor balances to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare interim and annual financial statements and close accounting books at the end of each financial period.
  • Support audit activities by providing auditors with required information and implementing audit recommendations.
  • Prepare financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets, and submit periodic reports to relevant stakeholders such as the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR).
  • Reconcile accounts with debtors and creditors.
  • Reconcile inter-branch, inter-district, and inter-bank accounts and investigate differences or unreconciled balances.
  • Maintain accurate member and share registers.
  • Review and certify payroll, travel allowances, per diem, and related payments.
  • Consolidate financial statements from branches.
  • Process bankers' cheque requests and related transactions.
  • Prepare annual tax declarations.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Finance & Administration or other authorized senior management, provided they comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Relevant professional experience.
  • An accounting certification is an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) or Banks.
  • Strong knowledge of banking regulatory requirements, accounting principles, and tax laws.
  • Good computer skills and experience using Core Banking Software.
  • Strong financial reporting skills.
  • Good planning, organizational, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
