📌 Role Overview

RSwitch Ltd, the operator of Rwanda’s national e-payment switch and manager of eKash, is seeking a qualified Senior Tax Officer. Reporting directly to the Chief Finance Officer, this senior individual-contributor position will lead operational tax compliance, tax accounting, and internal risk controls. As transaction volumes grow across the national payment infrastructure, the incumbent will provide strategic tax counsel to leadership and serve as the principal liaison with the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) and external auditors.

📋 Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance & Filings: Oversee end-to-end tax compliance across all applicable tax obligations, including accurate calculations, timely statutory filings, routine reconciliations, and record management.
  • Strategic Advisory: Assess the tax ramifications of new commercial contracts, financial products, and business shifts prior to execution while identifying compliant, commercially sound tax-planning avenues.
  • Stakeholder & Regulatory Liaison: Direct all engagements with the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) regarding audits, tax queries, and assessments; collaborate with external auditors on tax reporting and IFRS accounting.
  • Risk Management & Controls: Maintain and update the corporate tax-risk framework, establish internal controls, and present regular tax risk assessments to the CFO.
  • Cross-Departmental Support: Offer practical tax guidance to internal teams across the organization and assist with broader Finance department operations as needed.

🎯 Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Certification: Full professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, or equivalent) is required; specialized tax certifications are a distinct advantage.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in finance, accounting, or taxation, including at least 3 years of hands-on expertise managing Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Value Added Tax (VAT), and Withholding Tax (WHT) compliance.
  • Regulatory Track Record: Proven track record of direct engagements with the RRA or equivalent tax authorities, as well as external audit management.
  • Industry Experience: Exposure to payments, financial services, fintech, telecommunications, or high-volume transaction environments is highly preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Rwandan tax legislation, practical tax application, and IFRS tax accounting standards.
  • Core Competencies: Analytical capability, commercial acumen, report writing, high integrity, and effective stakeholder management skills.
  • Languages: Professional fluency in English is required; working knowledge of Kinyarwanda or French is an added advantage.

Before you apply to this role

A short checklist that meaningfully improves your response rate.

1

Tailor your CV to this advert. Name the employer and the role on the first line, and mirror the exact terminology they used in the requirements.

2

Attach a CV saved as a PDF with your full name as the filename, and keep it to two pages unless the employer asks for more.

3

Write a short cover note that answers one question they will care about: why you want this specific role at this specific organisation.

4

Match every requirement in the listing to a line in your CV. If you meet eight of ten requirements, say so plainly rather than letting them assume.

5

Apply while the vacancy is fresh. Employer response times in Rwanda are typically fastest in the first week after a vacancy is posted.

6

Never pay a recruitment fee. No legitimate employer charges a candidate to register, process an application, or secure an interview.

7

Verify the recruiter independently. Search the company name and phone number before you share your national ID or travel anywhere.

8

Keep a record. Note the date you applied, the channel you used and who you spoke to, in case you need it later.
